Barranco 24. Villa Primavera.

This house, built in 1903 by the Alvarez Calderon family and declared a national monument by the National Institute of Culture, was very damaged and ready to be demolished when it is bought, rescued and rebuilt by Ms. Maria Bieberach Olle. Considering its actual conservation and historical value, is being considered to be used as a Museum, cultural centre, or boutique hotel.

Barranco 23.- El Mirador.

“El Mirador” is a viewpoint place constructed in 1988 at the edge of the cliff and at the back of the Chapel La Ermita, during the administration of Mayor Pedro Allemant. Considered one of Lima’s most romantic places, is also visited by tourists who can appreciate the Pacific Ocean and sunsets. Some nearby restaurants are the “Acantilado de Barranco”, “La Posada del Mirador”, “La Flor de la Canela”, and “El Rincón de los Suspiros”.

Barranco 22.- Saenz Peña Avenue & San Martin Obelisk.

The Saenz Peña Avenue and walkway (Barranco, Lima, Peru) was constructed in 1912 by Barranco’s major Aurelio de Souza. In its center, there’s an obelisk to Jose De San Martin previously located in Paseo Colón avenue in the center of Lima until 1921 when it was moved to this location.

Barranco 21.- Municipal Athletics Stadium "Luis Gálvez Chipoco".

Initially this model was not included as part of the Barranco 3D Project and did not participated in the Model Your Town Competition, as it is in a far side of Barranco and most of Barranco models.

Barranco 20.- Houses and a building in Domeyer and El Libertador (San Martin) streets.

"Rancho Liébana" is an old historical house in Domeyer street, built in the late XIX century by the Pierola family. Also in this model is a modern house and a building in El Libertador (San Martin) street; in Barranco, Lima, Perú.

19.- Domeyer, Cavero & Junín streets, La Tapa Restaurant, La Posada del Ángel III bar, Domeyer hostel.

In the block between El Libertador street (which converts into Pedro de Osma street), Domeyer, Junín and Cavero streets, there are some houses with more than 100 years old. There we can find the restaurant La Tapa, the bar La Posada del Angel III, Domeyer hostel, among others.

This model was very laborious because of the size of the block and because there’s a condominium in Junin street that increases the number of houses and facades, in addition to irregular and inaccurate terrain. For this model I used large number of poligons and 44 phototextures, despite which weighs just 544 kb.

BARRANCO 3D PROJECT, WINNER OF THE 2010 MODEL YOUR TOWN COMPETITION.

I thank all those who supported this project, promoted and voted. Today it was announced that Barranco was the winner of Google "Model Your Town Competition", an award I share with all Peruvians. I also want to congratulate the other finalist modelers in Donostia-San Sebastian, West Palm Beach, Dursley and Braunschweig, all of them who deserve this prize and recognition for the excellent work done.

18.- Chabuca Granda walkway, Tio Mario & Songoro Cosongo Restaurants, Santos bar.
The Chabuca Granda walkway communicates the Municipal Park with the Bridge of the Sighs, and was named after the Peruvian composer and singer Chabuca Granda (1920 – 1983). At its sides are the Tio Mario restaurant, Santos bar and Songoro Cosongo Restaurant.

Public voting for the Google Model Your Town Competition has now closed

Today, public voting for the Google Model Your Town Competition has now closed. It has been a campaign full of spontaneity and good will, executing the ideas in the way they emerged, and I think it has been very successful indeed.

As a result, thousands of people from all over the world visited Barranco in 3D, and now know that somewhere in the southern hemisphere near the sea, there is what was once a village of fishermen that still preserves its culture, traditions and monumental architecture, and inspires artists, musicians and writers. On May 14 the winner will be announced, but the Barranco 3D project will continue to develop, because regardless of the outcome of the competition, it has generated pride in its neighbors and fellow citizens, and will serve as a tool for tourism and investment promotion, and preservation of its historic architecture.

To all those who collaborated, thank you very much!

17.- Press & Society Institute - Sabor y Tradición Restaurant.

The voting period is over, therefore I would like to comment on this model, that didn’t got in time to be included in the Model Your Town Competition.

The Enrique Coloma and Domeyer streets in Barranco, Lima- Peru, has some beautiful and well preserved old houses. In two of them operates the The Press & Society Institute (Instituto Prensa y Sociedad) and the Sabor & Tradición Restaurant.

16.- La Ermita Church & the Bridge of Sighs (Puente de los Suspiros).

The voting period is over, therefore I would like to comment on this model, that didn’t got in time to be included in the Model Your Town Competition.

The Church “La Ermita” was built in 1805 by Father Villalta, pastor of Surco in the nineteenth century in the place where a lighted cross miraculously appeared to guide the return to land of fishermen lost at sea. On January 14, 1881 was burned during the war with Chile. Rebuilt, its roof was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1974 and it’s top cross has almost fallen. Since then, the church has remained closed for almost 40 years. While its facade is in good condition, the roof needs urgent reconstruction.
The Bridge of Sighs (Puente de los Suspiros) was built in 1876 during the government of Mayor Enrique García Monterroso, and was also damaged in the war with Chile. Reconstructed, was a source of inspiration for the famous composer and singer Chabuca Granda (1920-1983), reason why there’s a monument in his honor. The bridge has 8 m. tall, 31 m. long and 3 m. wide.

GOOD NEWS: BARRANCO 3D PROJECT - FINALIST IN THE "MODEL YOUR TOWN COMPETITION" I am happy and proud to announce that Google has chosen, among hundreds of entrants from all over the world, the Barranco 3D Project as one of 5 finalists in their international contest "Model Your Town Competition", in which participants have modeled in 3D and for Google Earth part of their city they consider important for their cultural, historical or esthetic value.
To support this nomination I have made a video containing all the models representing Barranco. I hope you like this work, and if so, I expect your votes until May 1 at the following website. http://www.google.com/events/modelyourtown/vote.html

The winner will be announced on May 15 and the winner will receive $ 10,000 for the city’s public school district (or international equivalent).

15.- Canta Rana Restaurant, Police Station, modern houses.

This model contains a complete block of Barranco. Unfortunately only one of it's historic houses remain, built in 1918 and where you can find the “Canta Rana” restaurant. In the rest of the block we find the Barranco Police Station and some modern homes.
